Have I Gone Mad?
I'm afraid so, you're entirely bonkers.
But I'll tell you a secret, all the best people are.
The Mad Hatter addressing Alice, in Alice in Wonderland. A creation inspired by one of my favorite quotes. Created for the Notable Quotable competition; which allowed designers to pick a quote and design around the theme. The spiraling circle is meant to evoke the rabbit hole Alice falls down in the story. The spirals of black, white and gray have vibrant colors of pop meant to represent moments of madness.
Research based studio incorporating design methods that focus on an audience centric process. Making connections between visual communication and other subjects by researching specific audiences, contexts and problems.
The main focus was the challenges faced by the Marshallese (and those who interact with them in this context) in Northwest Arkansas. The specific audience was the women of the Marshallese community and the health physicians.
Research was conducted through various methods (interviews, fieldguide research, readings, etc.). This was utilized to identify and frame design problems. A collaborative course that involved both team work and individual leadership.
Involved conducting self initiated research, identifying potential design interventions and the creation of artifacts to improve the conditions for all involved.
A love for all the vegetables growing in the garden. They don't just taste good, they look good too.

A typographic journey translating the vocalization of vowels for people who struggle with speech and language development.
People don't recognize the importance of vowels and vowel sounds. Without vowels, words aren't properly formed and language as a whole falls apart. Words become the type we know to read and speak so easily and fluently, all because of vowels.
When sounding out vowels your mouth takes on a variety of shapes. The various positions of the mouth can be broken down into three basic lip shapes; smiling, neutral and or rounded. The mouth shapes are a guide to creating the vowel sounds and once they are paired together correctly people can begin to form words and sentences.
This work was centered around the history and anatomy of Matrix Nomenclatures. Focusing on the distinct parts of type. A playful and colorful overlay of a variety of important letterforms, which were influential to each individual's shape and characteristics.
Overlapping the various letterforms allows viewers to navigate their way through the design. The black detailing leads your eye to the specific characteristics labeled in the legend below.
A series of prints created to evoke a musical message. If there wasn't music in the world, our heads would be filled with nothing, Music makes us feel the way we do. It is also widely known that music is profoundly linked to our personal memories. For these reasons music holds an important place in people's lives.
A record player top is being driven into a skull to show the connection music has to the human mind and brain. There is no music coming from the player, reflecting the idea that without music we become lifeless.
A book could be created to evoke the powerful meaning music holds for so many people and this design could be utilized as a cover.
